This is the first Silverado HD I’ve seen in the wild with the absence of chrome. Looks much more tolerable all blacked out.
This is the 2nd Arteon I’ve ever seen in person. I think they look pretty slick, better than the current A5 Spertberk . The wheels are cartoonishly large, though...

A7 > Arteon > A5 Spor tback

I like the Arteon too. Sort of the anti brand snob in a way I can get behind.

Why are these so similar?
Taillights? Not the reason.
Sleek sedans? Try again.
Sporty & fast? Again, no.
Heck, is it because they’re both grey? No.
...
Rarity . Why buy a sporty sedan when a heavy-duty pickup costs only twice as much?

Everyone and their aunt has an A5/S5/RS5 Sportback these days. Weird to think how liftbacks are mainstream now.

The FP seems to hate this generation Silverado.
OTOH, the market LOVES this generation Silverado. I’m pretty sure I know which opinion the General most values.

I understand your point, but realistically someone who would buy a Areton isn’t cross shopping a 2500 truck.
That being said, the best advertised deal I could find on a Areton near me is ~$32k, while the best advertised deal on a Silverado 1500 near me is ~$34k. If I was using my money to buy one, the truck certainly would look much more advantageous than the lift back German sedan with huge depreciation.

The “truck for 2x the price” part was certainly sarcastic. Given fuel economy improvements with trucks lately, plus easier ingress/egress for trucks and crossovers, more tall-vehicle market share makes sense.
And, much as I like sedans, I’d probably take the Silverado as well given such similar prices.

it looks like regurgitated vomit in person

The FP hate that I see tends to focus primari ly on how ugly it is . But it’s probably pri cing and/or features that are making the sales happen (especially when it comes to fleets) . I hope GM doesn’t misunderstand this as an indicator that they hit a home run in the looks department.

These things are seriously the most hideous thing on the market, so I don’t blame the FP. It would be too embarrassing to drive unless it was a fleet vehicle, but then I’d be reluctant to buy it for a fleet unless I was buying for a government at a price point, because it would reflect so poorly on the business buying them.

Mileage is pretty good on the Chebby too.

Maybe, but it’s a sales success.

But they hit a home run in the sales department.
It’s saved their financials in each of the last two quarters.

Since when? I know they were slow to start, didn't know they had picked up?

The Arteon is one of those cars that you forget exists until you see one out in the wild and think “hey, that;’s a pretty good looking car” and a few moments later remember that its an Arteon.

Yeah, if it weren’t for us being able to get it for around $5,000 less, we would have gotten another Ram at work. They sell the WT package cheap.

Honestly, I haven’t been paying attention. Bigger hit than the F-150?

interesting - you are absolutely right about dumping the chrome, I like those wheels too. I have yet to see an Arteon in person...

It absolutely kills me that the Arteon R wagon is not coming stateside.
